About All things New Health & Wellness
I’ve always believed that health is about wholeness; that it, the state of being whole or complete in every part of our human essence: spirit, soul (mind, emotions, will) and body. After all God created us as 3-in-1 beings where each part influences and affects the others. With this understanding then, it makes no sense at all to just treat one part of our being. Yet, this is exactly what we find with mainstream medicine which divorces the body from the other components. It’s no surprise to me that this system is failing and we are sicker than ever.
This is particularly true for the person who has placed their faith in Christ, is spiritually one with God and is daily being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. We can’t treat just our bodies and call that health or wholeness. It’s not biblical and it’s simply not the plan God has for our lives. He knows how He created us, knows what (and Who) we need to live abundantly, and sent his Son to die to bring us back into our destiny and inheritance as His beloved children. Jesus came to bring those who would accept Him back into the Father’s Shalom (peace), back into wholeness through salvation and sanctification of our spirits, souls and bodies (Thessalonians 5:23). God’s mission in Christ is to bring us back into His family, heal us and recreate the image of Christ in us so that we may partake of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4) and bear fruit for God (Romans 7:4). Praise His holy Name!
And that’s our mission too. We are committed to partnering with the Holy Spirit in His work of sanctifying the Body of Christ. Our vision is that the Body, corporately and individually, would realize its true identity in Christ, receive its abundant inheritance of wholeness and oneness in Christ, and become what God always intended it to be: the united, Spirit-empowered, transforming presence in this world for the salvation of mankind and the defeat of our and God’s great enemy.
There are three cornerstones to our work:
Functional Root-Cause Medicine
Functional medicine seeks the physical, soulical, and spiritual root causes of disease. For example, physically speaking, heart disease is the result of metabolic dysfunction where the body’s metabolic structures and biochemical processes do not work right and produce a number of different symptoms across different systems. But science showed long ago that mental and emotional stress is also a significant contributor to heart disease. Bitter anger, un-forgiveness, frustration, financial strain, relationship problems, job dissatisfaction, and grief are a few examples, although there are endless sources of soul stress in this world. We are freaking out on a massive scale so it isn’t really any wonder that heart disease is the #1 killer in westernized nations. Root-cause medicine takes all physical, soulical and spiritual factors into consideration in helping clients heal and get well, not just from heart disease, but from other chronic disease as well. It is personalized to the patient’s individual health history, their current health issues, and their personal healing goals and needs.
Pastoral counseling focuses on mentoring and discipleship. It’s goal is inside-out transformation through a closer relationship with God and sanctification, as opposed to outside-in transformation through behavior modification or problem-solving. This type of counseling focuses on helping the care receiver attain deeper intimacy with their Abba, and a greater understanding and appropriation of their identity and inheritance as a new creation in Christ. There is a great deal of spiritual formation in pastoral counseling because we rely on the Word of God to speak powerfully into our lives, to instruct and transform even the most hopeless situation, if we let it. This is the holy place where God’s love and power are revealed to us in deeply intimate and personal ways. It’s where the wounds of living in a fallen world are finally healed, and unconditional love, acceptance and security are experienced, maybe for the first time. Personally, this type of counseling saved and changed my life. We don’t consider healing of the whole person possible without this type of counseling, which is why it is a cornerstone of our healing practice today.
We are teachers of the Word of God because it is powerful to instruct and heal. We know, from the Word of God itself and from our own personal experiences, that spiritual issues are often the root-cause of physical and mental illness. For example, we are commanded to forgive others as God has forgiven us. For a believer to live in un-forgiveness and bitterness towards another is not only blatant disobedience to the life of Christ inside and cuts her off from God’s healing grace, but will also produce physiological illness such as heart disease, cancer, auto immune disease and a host of others. It is illogical and unreasonable to expect healing from a physical or spiritual disease if we refuse to get rid of the source of the disease. Spiritual formation and counseling can help a believer get to the spiritual roots of their physical disease and begin to heal.
There is also the biblical fact of spiritual warfare against our and God’s enemy. Many believers are wary if not outright ignorant about this reality in their lives. Nevertheless, the Bible is replete with teachings, exhortations, and commandments for every believer around this spiritual battle and provides detailed descriptions of strategy, tactics and weaponry at our disposal, not to mention our guaranteed victory.
God has said that His people perish for lack of vision and knowledge and so we instruct believers in these vital parts of daily life with God. Our soon-to-be-launched sister site and blog, Healthy Christian Life, is our main venue for spiritual formation and will include webinars, live events, online bible studies, online courses, online retreats, and a newsletter. Our vision is to launch a members area within the next 12 months where members can access video teachings, podcasts, guest teachers, bible studies and much, much more.
